New resources for learning film-making
Media Education Wales has just published two new resources for teaching about film and film-making. Filmsense is a cross-platform interactive introduction to film language, and Editsense is a DVD-ROM of short films for students to edit. For more information visit editsense.blogspot.com.
 
Digital Britain
The interim Digital Britain report was published by the UK Government on 29 January. The report contains more than 20 recommendations, including that Ofcom should work with the BBC and others to "recommend a new definition and ambition for a National Media Literacy Plan".
 
Digital Creativity and Hard-to-reach learners

Becta have published a useful report by the University of Liverpool on a research project into how digital creativity - including film-making - can motivate 'hard-to-reach' learners. The research 'presents strong evidence to suggest that digital creativity offers teachers some strikingly innovative means of extending teaching and learning strategies in ways likely to engage hard-to-reach pupils'.

 
Film: 21st century literacy
Leading film organisations published the first UK-wide film education strategy in early June. Film: 21st Century Literacy aims to bring greater coherence and consistency to the provision of film education in the UK so children and young people have equal opportunities to watch, understand and make films.
