One Life is a celebration of the most brilliant and imaginative stories of survival from the natural world.
A major feature length production from BBC Earth Films, One Life has been created from 10,000 hours of incredible, intimate footage of amazing creatures that are in turn heroic, strange, loveable, beautiful and surprisingly funny. One Life is voiced by Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Cowboys and Aliens) and offers an accessible narrative that children will love.
Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) will introduce the film with a short presentation on the unusual creatures they’ve come across and how they protect animals in Scotland.
FREE to Glasgow Local Authority Schools. £3 per pupil all other schools, accompanying teachers go free.

GFT School Events – UK Green Film Festival and Refugee Week 2012

Refugee Week 2012:
District 9
Tuesday 19 June 10.15am – 12.15pm,
Glasgow Film Theatre
Recommended for Secondary 4 – 6, Cert: 15
[Expressive Arts / Global Citizenship]
Set in South Africa, District 9 begins as a mock documentary about the imminent eviction of extraterrestrials from a shantytown called District 9. The creatures, nicknamed ‘prawns’, have been on Earth for years, having arrived sickly and starving. Initially received by humans with compassion and care, the aliens are now mired in terrible conditions typical of long-term refugee camps, unwanted by a hostile host society.
The alien refugees soon discover a kindred spirit in Wikus, a government agent who is accidentally exposed to their biotechnology and starts to mutate into a ‘prawn.’ Wikus must find a cure for his transformation as well as helping the refugee aliens return home.
A thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi take on the plight of refugees across the world.
Introduced by Scottish Refugee Council.
